Probably the most magical store in the world

Wands & Spells; Books & Furniture; Retro Toys & Gifts; Original Tudor Recipe ButterBeer

If William Shakespeare had been a time travelling wizard (which of course we know he was!) where would he have shopped? Why, Magic Alley of course!

We are the world's oldest makes and purveyors of magical wares and of course things have changed a lot over the years, but everything we do reflects our love for where we live, our faith in the world and our hope for the future - as well as drawing upon the heritage of our past when we first opened the doors of our first store in Greenwich, London.

But what does our flagship store in Stratford have? You won't believe it if I tell you!

Everything from magic spells and models, to incense, quirky books and gifts.  There are fairies and fairy houses, unicorns and dragons; vintage toys and games; and books that you never knew you wanted.  And then there's the steampunk selection!  Where do we begin?  Best to say, that it's better to come and see for yourself as words just don't express what there is to offer.  But there's more...

You can browse the packed shelves of a dedicated magical and mystical section. As well as a 'supreme' collection of magic spellkits and spell books, we also have crystals, incense, smudge stick, books on many magical subjects, crystal balls and Halloween all year round - just the way us witches love it! Our staff are keen practitioners and relish the opportunity to have a chat with fellow 'cunning folk' and give advise about your purchases and how you might go about using them in your craft.

Of course this means the rest of Magic Alley is generously stocked with Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, an antique print gallery and a classic toyshop too.  Then of course there's the chance to have a butterbeer - in fact you'll want to spend even longer here than before.

We look forward to seeing you soon...

Wartytoads Booksellers: The Chronicles of Wizard's Thatch

“ ‘By my soul I swear, there is no power in the tongue of man to alter me’ (The Merchant of Venice, Shakespeare) and so my thoughts on The Chronicles of Wizard’s Thatch remain as thus. The series is based on good story-telling, inspiring, full of creative craftsmanship, history and most of all magic. References to Shakespeare and great fictional characters abound, including brand new beautifully created figures of interest. Congratulations Dave Matthews on creating such a treasure chest of storytelling.”

“From fairytales to politics, storytelling to history, the series of books in Chronicles of Wizard’s Thatch has everything. You start on an adventure, with time travel thrown in, meet people in history (many recognisable characters) and sometimes, they end up in a political turmoil not unlike the current climate. Full of creative magic these books will stimulate any imagination – young and old!”

“Dave Matthews, a wizard of a storyteller – I love reading his books and you will too.”

Tangled Words : Unusual & Peculiar Gifts and Books

Tangled Words Booksellers has hundreds and hundreds of books that you just won't see in huge impersonal booksellers on the High Street.  We pride ourselves on finding unusual and peculiar books that you didn't know existed, but once you've seen them you've just got to have them!
Titles include such diverse books as "The Zodiac Oracle"; Box sets of the complete "Famous Five"; the superbly illustrated "Gothic Dreams: Zombies"; A lovely collected set of "The Worst Witch"; "All The Countries We've Ever invaded"; and "Dimensions in Time and Space".
We also stock classic children's novels like "101 Dalmatians" and "Treasure Island"; really quirky gift books about "Outwitting Squirrels", "Vintage Party Games" and "Cockney Rhyming Slang" as well as books on weather lore, crystals, magic and fairy tales!
You could spend hours leafing through the titles!

Wonderland Toys: Vintage & Retro Traditional Games & Toys

Few things define our childhood memories like the toys that we remember from way back when.  We all had our favourites that we just had to get out to play with at every opportunity and were distraught if we couldn't find.
There is nothing quite so magical as old fashioned board games that invoke those memories of rainy days and roaring log fires - and we do not stock electronic or plastic toys.  our range is ever changing as we discover new and unusual glimpses into the past...
Our current range includes such classics as: "Snakes and Ladders"; "Ludo"; "Jack Straws"; "Tumble-Top"; "Muggins"; Liar's Dice"; "Wooden Train Whistles"; "Marbles" and "Jacks"!
Our favourite though, without doubt, is the "Unicorn Balloon Modelling Kit".

The Magic Alley Café: Original Tudor Recipe ButterBeer Bar

No visit to Magic Alley and the World of Wizard's Thatch would be complete without sampling one of their scrumptious beverages including our world famous "Original Tudor Recipe ButterBeer". That's right, it really is a real drink.  First appearing in recipe books around 1588 it's a rich, spicy and creamy cold drink that has to be tasted to be believed!
Simply choose your drink, order at the desk and it will be made fresh for you every time...

The Wizard's Thatch Candy Co: The Original Wizarding Confection Collection

The Wizard's Thatch Candy Company is quite possibly the most popular little shop in Wizard’s Thatch with most of the students (and even some of the teachers) from the Wizard's Thatch Academy treating the shop they refer to as "Auntie Emm's" as a glorified tuck shop.

Emmentaal Maracas, the proprietor, makes all her own confectionery and insists that the recipes are a closely guarded family secret. Her story is rather unusual, and she has a fascinating history that you can read all about in the Enchanted Manor Museum - but suffice to say there's a lot more to her than just a sweet shop proprietor.

Her bestselling sweets include:

Jelly Troll Bogies, Two Ton Tongue Ticklers, Petrified White Mice, Sherbet Fountains, Licorice Candy Canes and the obligatory favourites Fizzing Whizz Bangs.
